Welcome to the Landscaping Corner Blog

Updated: Nov 19, 2023

Welcome to the Landscaping Corner

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Landscaping Corner. This is a place where every week I will be diving into new, exciting topics that are related to gardening. But before we go any further into that, your probably wondering… What is Eastleigh Studio? Who is writing these blogs? And why Landscaping Corner?

Well…

Welcome to the Landscaping Corner

Who Am I?

My name is Stephen Machin and Eastleigh Studio is my business that is devoted to designing dream gardens every day. I have always had a love of the outdoors and being in nature from a young age. Family holidays to the Yorkshire Dales, trips to the Lake District, and weekend retreats to woodland cabins in; Dalby Forest, Sherwood Forest and the New Forest to name but a few.

Eastleigh Studio was born through my love of nature and design. Being in nature and admiring the beauty of it has left me in awe for years. Walking through a forest, hearing the crunch of leaves underfoot, the contrast of the tree bark on the green background, hearing the birds sing and bee’s buzz is a feeling that can’t quite be explained.

With this love of the outdoors deeply ingrained into me, it didn’t take long for me to quickly see the beauty of nature on a smaller scale, that being in the garden. Right here in the garden you have your own, private, undisturbed plot of nature, and you can do with it what you want (within reason).

My vision when starting Eastleigh Studio was to create a business that focused on giving people the opportunity to turn their garden, into their own perfect plot of nature, that they could enjoy year-round and for years to come.

Fast forward 3 years from this point and that is exactly what we have been doing, creating magical gardens that people fall in love with. We have worked on small new build plots, less than 100sqm in area, right up to projects well over 1 acre in size. And each one presents its own unique challenges, but that’s what makes this job so interesting, every day is different.

Why Am I Blogging?

That is an extremely good question and one that I will answer now. Blogging has never been something I have thought about too much over the years. But recently it has been at the front of my mind and here’s why…

When we are stuck, we generally turn to Google in order to answer our questions. No matter the topic, the answer is usually there. But sometimes you have to trawl through article after article before you can find what you are looking for, and this takes time. You are looking for that one article that is; written by someone you trust and is easy to read and understand.

“Complexity is the enemy of execution” is a popular saying and one that rings true. You want to do something but you are not sure how to do it. You ask someone who does know how to do it, but they give an answer you can’t hope to understand. Hence, you never make a start. Here’s where we come in.

The Landscaping Corner will be my first blog and it is something I am extremely excited to start and develop over the coming years. My vision for the blog is to provide easy to understand and actionable advice on; garden design tips and tricks, landscaping knowledge, installation techniques, material overviews, design project breakdowns, and almost everything else you can think of relating to landscaping.

My hope is that you will be able to use this blog as your primary source of information when you are curious about landscaping. Whether that be; having a general read, keeping up to date on the latest trends, designing your own garden or even starting a DIY project to transform your garden.

What Am I Going To Be Blogging About?

As the name suggests, this blog is going to be centred around all things landscaping and gardening. I will be covering a wide range of topics relating to the landscaping industry, including:

  • Garden design tips and tricks

Whether you; own your own landscaping business and want to increase your knowledge of designing, are just starting your own landscaping or design business and are looking for tips, or are a homeowner who is fed up of their boring garden and wants to change things up. We’ve got you covered.

How can you get involved?

I want to build a thriving community in the landscaping industry, where you can find the information, you need and get the answers you are looking for. As the blog grows, I will ensure our community does as well. Please join our Facebook page where we can have discussions with each other about all things landscaping.
